I’m Marie, but you can call me Maya. Why? Well, it’s my family nickname, and in Czech, where I come from, that translates to Maja. 

However, MAYA isn’t just my nickname; it’s a design principle. MAYA stands for “Most Advanced, Yet Acceptable,” and it’s all about finding the sweet spot between innovation and familiarity. Coined by the industrial designer Raymond Loewy, this principle suggests that designs should be both groundbreaking and relatable.

Sure, Raymond came up with this idea way back, but guess what? The game hasn’t changed that much. Consumers still want stuff that’s mind-blowing but also feels like an old friend. So, why not use this design magic to shake up how we do business now and in the future?

Let’s dive into what brings me here. I’m on a mission, a journey fuelled by creativity and a deep commitment to making a positive impact on the world. Now, let me take you on a little detour through time. A few years ago, my journey led me to the enchanting landscapes of Indonesia with the incredible NGO Save Turtle. There, knee-deep in the sands and under the stars, I got hands-on with the protection of sea turtles. It was eye-opening, revealing the challenges faced by purpose-driven companies and the significant impact they can make when fueled by love and dedication.

This experience became the catalyst for my passion to transition from theory to action. I realized that my skills and love for design could be a force for good. The result? MAYA, the sustainable design studio, was born.
